One of Those Nights

It was one of those nights. I was planning on going to bed early, but I was getting a ton done at homework so I went to bed a little later than I wanted to. I thought, no problem, as long as I get a good night sleep. This was the night that the big storm hit across all of the United States and put it in a deep freeze. Here in Lexington we just got some crazy wind. It woke Melanie and me up. Melanie got up to check the computer to see if there was a tornado warning or anything. There were 40-50 mph winds and for some reason it was really loud to us. Now we had just set up our trampoline a couple days before. Since we are new home owners and afraid horrible things are going to happen to our house, we could both picture the trampoline being lifted up and thrown into our house or a neighbor’s fence. Melanie decided to take some cinder blocks we had and put them on the legs of the trampoline. As I lay there in bed, I could picture my wife struggling in the wind to do this, so I went down and helped out.

Now I could finally get to sleep. Except I have children who were also awakened by the wind. That or it was just a typical night where they like to come into our room and sleep on the floor. This night they both wanted to sleep on the floor, but as close to Melanie as possible. This of course cause some yells and crying, but Melanie finally worked that one out. The wind kept her up, so she went to Hannah’s room to sleep where it was harder to hear the wind.

About an hour later I was woken up by Lincoln screaming. I couldn’t see him so I got up and found him in the hall. I picked him up, and about the time we get back to my room he throws up all over my shoulder. Now anyone who knows me knows I don’t do well with throw up. In desperation I take Lincoln to the bathroom. I take off my shirt and go and find Melanie. I wake her up asking her where a rag is that I can use. (I didn’t know where she put them in this new house) She mumbles that I can use any rag and falls back to sleep. Rats! My plan to wake her up and have her help doesn’t work. I gag my way cleaning Lincoln, myself, and the carpet up. Finally we got everything cleaned up and it was finally time for bed. Sadly, there was only an hour left.  It was one of those nights.

  2. That's a good dad--suck it up and let Mom sleep. I hope Lincoln is feeling better now.
